The global entrepreneurial movement, Startup Weekend, is coming to Cork for the first time from 5th to 7th April 2013.   To date over 100,000 entrepreneurs across 300 cities have created over 5,000 start ups during StartUp Weekends, and the Cork organisers are confident that the April event will yield some great business opportunities.

One of the organisers is serial entrepreneur Will Martin and founder of LiveDuel.com.  “Attending the Startup Weekend in San Francisco was one of the most rewarding experiences of my entrepreneurial life.   Working side by side with my peers to build a product, business model, marketing plan and execution strategy in 54 hours has given me the tools and contacts that I apply on my own startup LiveDuel.com.  If you have ever wondered what it takes to be in a start up or how to meet likeminded individuals, Startup Weekend Cork is a must attend event”.

The Cork Startup Weekend will offer a stimulating but focused environment as the 54 hour countdown kicks off with mentor and and motivational sessions, as well as talks by recently named Forbes most influential ‘30 under 30: Social Entrepreneurs’ James Whelton of Coder Dojo among others.  Entrepreneurs and business people across all disciplines have a unique opportunity during Startup Weekend to come together and exchange ideas, develop and refine business concepts in teams, plan critical paths and market test, until ultimately they are judged by a panel which includes Gareth Keane, Investment Manager at Qualcomm Ventures, Sean O’ Sullivan, Managing Director at Avego, Pat Phelan, CEO Trustev and Eamon Leonard, VP Engineering at Engine Yard.

There is a diverse group behind the Cork Startup Weekend, including Will Martin, LiveDuel.com, Jayne Ronayne of UrYearBook.com, Peter Finnegan, Rubicon Centre, Ronan O’Dubhaill, IGNITE, Barry O’Brien, EMC and Siobhan Finn of Cork Innovates among others.
